TWO EDGED SWORD. August 30, 2014 -- Secret Fresh Gallery

Garcia’s works reflect on the scripture’s imagery of a force that pierces “even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit.” Through solid sculptural forms and expressive painted surfaces, the artist explores tension between the material and the spiritual, the visible and the unseen. Edges, fractures, and layered textures suggest moments of examination and revelation, echoing the passage’s notion of discernment—of separating intention from action, and appearance from essence.
Rather than portraying the sword as an instrument of violence, Garcia treats it as a symbol of illumination and spiritual clarity. The works invite viewers to consider the inward work of reflection: how belief, conscience, and hidden motives are tested and laid bare.
In Two-Edged Sword, sculpture and painting become parallel languages of inquiry—forms through which the artist meditates on faith, introspection, and the enduring power of the Word to challenge, refine, and transform the human heart.
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." -Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)
